About Jim Brown

Four-time Emmy Award-winning producer, director, writer, and cinematographer Jim Brown is responsible for some of the most popular and critically acclaimed musical documentary programs of the last four decades.

He heads Jim Brown Productions and Ginger Group Productions, that specialize in producing music, social and cultural documentaries, concerts, feature documentaries for theatrical release, PBS fundraising specials and DVD/CD packages. He has produced and directed over 100 television documentaries and concerts.

Brown is a member of the Directors Guild of America and holds records for the popularity of his programs on PBS that ran The Weavers: Wasn't That A Time! for 25 years and Peter, Paul and Mary: Carry it On for 10 years. Four of his films have been released theatrically (three internationally). His award winning documentaries and music specials have been televised in over 25 countries and over 40 of his programs are or have been distributed commercially on home entertainment (Downloads, DVD's, VHS) many have also included an accompanying CD.

Besides musical programs Brown has produced, directed and photographed a 10-part series on the Travel Channel of luxury homes, super yachts, castles, ranches, and houseboats. He also has produced 5 installations films for the GRAMMY Museum at LA Live. He has done a successful infomercial for Time Life called Folk Years.

He is an avid outdoorsman who hikes, skis, kayaks and gardens. He resides in New York's Hudson Valley and has an office in New York City and is tenured professor at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
